Trinity College Dublin

Description:

Regent House forms the centrepiece overhead the main entrance archway into Trinity College from College Green.  This 500-year-old building constructed primarily from Elizabethan brickwork is a heritage gem with myriad restoration restrictions.  Neither a normal depth pit or headroom at top of the shaft were available.  T.C.D. now intend to use Regent House as a visitor centre and as it is located at 1st floor, adequate disabled public access is essential. A final challenge involved streaming restricted access for staff and students to the School of Music which is located at the top floor. Directly overhead a baby grand piano sits atop the lift shaft in a performance space, requiring additional sound isolation measures.

Accel Lifts installed a 900kg/12 Passenger Adjacent Entry Traction MRL passenger lift with additional reduced pit and headroom measures.  Attention to detail was vital throughout the project to ensure the new lift had a minimal impact on the existing building structure and use.
